What Is FutureServe Green Hosting?

A2 Hosting's FutureServe initiative is designed to protect and improve ecological conditions for current and future generations. A2 Hosting applies a number of global protection practices in our everyday actions.

FutureServe isn't just about providing carbon neutral hosting solutions to help the fight against global warming and climate change. It is also about our responsibility, one that we take very seriously, for environment preservation. A2 Hosting is proud to be a Green Host. A2 Hosting's Carbon Offsets

In association with the United State's leading carbon reduction and offset organization, Carbonfund.org, A2 Hosting is strongly committed to offsetting our server emissions. The objective of our Carbon offsets is to balance our web servers' release of carbon dioxide by using a combination of products, practices and resources that save an equivalent (and likely additional) amount of CO2. Carbon offsets allow A2 Hosting to take responsibility and to mitigate CO2 emissions from everyday business activities.

Besides daily green friendly practices, A2 Hosting carbon offsets are further established by supporting renewable energy, energy efficiency, and reforestation projects via our support of Carbonfund.org. Our partnership with Carbonfund.org allows them to promote the continued development of clean, renewable domestic sources of energy and help reduce CO2 emissions on not just a local scale, but globally as well.

Employee Eco Protection Practices

A2 Hosting employs a number of everyday environmentally friendly practices. We also strive to search for additional ways to pitch in to reduce our carbon footprint. A few examples of our daily green friendly practices include the use of reusable office supplies, telecommuting practices and recycling older equipment. Further details can be found below:

Reusable office supplies
We have eliminated Styrofoam and plastic office waste at our headquarters. A2 Hosting encourages employees to use thermoses, mugs and reusable drinking containers rather than disposable containers. Our office also uses towels as opposed to paper towels.

Telecommuting
A2 Hosting has various telecommuting practices to reduce vehicle emissions caused by daily commutes by employees to our office.

Recycling Older Equipment
We recycle our retired computers by using them as internal servers, dedicated servers for clients with lower resource requirements and by reselling them to the public instead of discarding them.

Hosting Equipment Energy Reduction

Offsetting emissions and our daily eco friendly actions are two of the three divisions of FutureServe. The third division centers on A2 Hosting's efforts to use energy efficient web hosting equipment. Our use of Low Voltage Xeon Processors, Power Efficient DDR2 Memory and Power Saving Hard Drives are three energy reducing practices.

Low Voltage Xeon Processors
A2 Hosting utilizes Xeon Processors, known for their energy efficiency thanks in part to their cooling design. Our Low Volatage Xeon processors offer 3 times higher performance per watt compared to older, more inefficient CPUs.

Power Efficient DDR2 Memory
A2 Hosting pays particular attention to server memory power consumption as memory consumes around 15% of data center energy. A2 Hosting's servers utilize DDR2 Memory. DDR2 uses 1.5 volt power consumption technology, an ultimate power reducing solution.

Power Saving Hard Drives
Our power saving hard drives consume 40% less power and 4-5 less watts than competing hard drives. Customers also experience faster system readiness during re-boots because less current is used during start up.
